Experience Hungarian Desserts & Pastries In A Budapest Cukrászda

CUKRÁSZDA IS A DEDICATED HUNGARIAN PASTRY SHOP.

Have you been to one? Well, it's a must!

Before I ever visited Hungary over 4 years ago, my mother-in-law raved about her time spent as a child in a Cukraszda. She went on to explain how fancy everything was, from the decor to the decadent pastries.

Now that I live here, I know exactly what she was talking about. It's an experience like no other. Culturally this is the hub of Hungarian lifestyle, as you either pop in to pick up treats to bring to family or friend gatherings, or you spend an hour in the shop ordering and trying as many cakes, and pastries as you can.

This past weekend we went on a long walk in the neighborhood and found ourselves at the Daubner Cukraszda on the Buda side, which has been here since 1901.

With a surprise, it was packed in here. Although everyone was wearing masks, we remember taking this same walk at the end of the countries mandatory Quarantine back in June and the line was up the street, and the host would only let a few people in at a time.

So we were shocked at the large crowd.

My husband got in line and I started up my insta-stories.

To my surprise, my DM's lit up with so many people who were reminiscing of their childhood in a Cukrászda, and some were even homesick, wishing they could travel home but can't due to COVID as they're expats in other countries.

At that moment I looked down and was thrilled for my daughter who was getting to build memories in this beautiful country.

I'm grateful for this experience too!
