A movement was started. An idea was heard by the government. The rules changes. And boom, Liberty Bridge is the coolest place to hang out on the weekends in July/August.

Liberty Bridge in Budapest is closed on weekends to trams and cars for the people of Budapest to show that they are liberated in Budapest.

The green bridge in Budapest is known as the Liberty Bridge. Atop the hill as a backdrop to the bridge is the statue of freedom herself, Citadela. The statue stands for all of the people who fought and died for Hungary. Take a hike to the top if you’re ever in town. It’s a must do.

Anyway, Liberty Bridge turns into a walking bridge from Friday nights to Sunday evening. Each weekend several events are scheduled to bring people together, with common interest and enjoy some fun under the sun. Concerts, Yoga, dancing and so much more over the Danube River. Most of the events are free and all of them can be found on Facebook. Search, show interest, and commit to show up. It’s a great way to become apart of the Budapest locals.

Have you ever picniced or enjoyed the festivities on Liberty Bridge in the summer?
